أتكون حياة الفرد منا محسوبة بالسنين؟ ما علاقته بالزمان والمكان؟ ما علاقته بالأشخاص؟ وهم مختلفون في الأعمار والأفكار والاتجاهات؟ هل يمكن أن يحيا من غير أن تتغير أفكاره ولا يلاحظ التغييرات التي تطرأ عليه..؟ بطل الرواية أبو سليم رجل ذو مكانة في أسرته وذو ملاءة أيضاً مشى بنجاح في عمره نحو السبعين. فجأة، وهو يستمع إلى الصغار من حوله يتحدثون عن مصطلحات الانترنت والحواسيب يسأل سؤ أتكون حياة الفرد منا محسوبة بالسنين؟ ما علاقته بالزمان والمكان؟ ما علاقته بالأشخاص؟ وهم مختلفون في الأعمار والأفكار والاتجاهات؟ هل يمكن أن يحيا من غير أن تتغير أفكاره ولا يلاحظ التغييرات التي تطرأ عليه..؟ بطل الرواية أبو سليم رجل ذو مكانة في أسرته وذو ملاءة أيضاً مشى بنجاح في عمره نحو السبعين. فجأة، وهو يستمع إلى الصغار من حوله يتحدثون عن مصطلحات الانترنت والحواسيب يسأل سؤالاً يثير أحفاده فيكتشفون أن جدهم جاهل بتكنولوجيا الاتصالات التي تقوم عليها الحياة اليوم ويعلقون تعليقات تزعجه وهي عندهم من البدهيات فمن ذا الذي لا يعرف في الحياة المعاصرة معنى الرابط أو (الماسيج) أو (الواتس آب) وما شابه ذلك.. لكن الجدّ وهو في غاية الاستياء تربطه علاقة اجتماع دوري مع أصدقائه في المقهى فيفضي كل منهم إلى (الشلة) بهمومه التي يجدها في بيته أو في المجتمع الذي تغير عليهم بسبب التطور الحادث فلم يعد الجيل كما كان وطفرة الاتصالات الرقمية تضعهم في اضطراب، وأسعار السوق تدهشهم وسوى ذلك من المتغيرات.
