تعتمد قصص (ذلك الشتاء البعيد) بشكل واضح، على الحكايات الشعبية، طابعها وموضوعاتها وأسلوبها التي يضفي عليها القاص من لمساته ما يخلق منها اعمالاً ذات جمال وفن غير اعتياديين، مع أن القصص وانطلاقاً من منبعها المشترك تدور حول محور أساسي واحد وهو أنها حكايات عن أحداث تقع في مدينة (العمارة) في الخمسينات، يرويها راوٍ واحد ولمستمعين يتكررون في كل القصص.
