المصادر الفلسفية هي أقوال الفلاسفة التي بقيت لنا محفوظة في كتابات بلغتها الأصلية وهي تعبير مباشر عن تصورات الفلاسفة ووجهات نظرهم. فالمصادر الفلسفية هي الفلسفة الخالصة ذاتها، وهي ما قاله الفلاسفة مباشرة دون وساطة وتأويل أو تفسير، قد يؤدي إلى عدم فهم مقصد الفلاسفة. والدارس للفلسفة بقدر اعتماده في عرضه وتقويمه على النصوص بقدر ما تكتسب دراسته قيمة واعتباراً طالما أن النص هو برهان الفكرة المعروضة وشاهد عيان عليها.
وأفضل قراءة للنص الفلسفي: هي قراءتها في لغاتها الأصلية لا في النقل من لغة أخرى طالما أن النقل أو الترجمة يسقط بالضرورة جانباً ما من الجوانب المهمة في النصوص الأصلية، ولا يرجع هذا القصور أو العجز فقط إلى مدى دقة المترجمين وكفاءتهم الفلسفية، بل قد يرجع أيضا إلى اختلاف اللغات فيما بينها في خصائصها وقدراتها التعبيرية وتباين أساليبها في تقريب الفهم.
وقد قسمنا هذا الكتاب إلى مجموعة من الفصول فتناولنا في الفصل الأول الفلسفة اليونانية القديمة. وقدمنا أفلاطون ومحاورته "الجمهورية". كما تناولنا أرسطـو وكتابيه "النفس" و"الأخلاق".
أما الفصل الثاني فجاء بعنوان الفلسفة الغربية في العصور الوسطى واخترنا القديس أوغسطين وكتابه "الاعترافات" والقديس توما الأكويني وكتابه "نظام حكم الأمراء".
أما الفصل الثالث فتناولنا فيه الفلسفة الإسلامية في العصور الوسطى عند الكندي في "رسالة إلى المعتصم بالله في الفلسفة الأولى". والفارابي وكتابه "آراء أهل المدينة الفاضلة ومضاداتها" وكذلك الغزالي وكتابه "تهافت الفلاسفة" وابـن رشـد وكتابه "فصل المقال وتقرير ما بين الشريعة والحكمة من الاتصال".
وجاء الفصل الرابع بعنوان الفلسفة الحديثة والمعاصرة فقدمنا فيه أعلام هذه الفلسفة ومنهم فرنسيس بيكون وكتابه "الأورجانون الجديد" ورينيه ديكارت وكتابه "مبادئ الفلسفة" وجون لوك وكتابه "مقال في العقل البشري" وهيجل وكتابه "ظاهريات الفكر". وكان الفيلسوف الأخير جوتلوب فريجه وتحفته الفلسفية "أسس علم الحساب".
