فالمؤلف قن بنى رسالته هذه على جانبين؛ الجانب الأول: سيرة رجال السلوك وبعض أقوالهم، وذكر كثيراً من أعلامهم كنماذج يسير المريد على هديها. والجانب الثاني: ذكر مبادئ السلوك ومناهجه.
