يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يفتح الحديث عن فكرة العقلانية في ساحة الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر، الفكرة التي شهدت تقلصاً وتراجعاً في مجتمعات المسلمين، وكادت تتحول إلى فكرة منبوذة وغير محبذة لا أقل عن شريحة من الناس، لأنها تحرض على نقد تقاليد ومواقف وسلوكيات إجتماعية وتربوية وثقافية، باتت مألوفة وراسخة ومتوارثة، لكنها حميدة بالضرورة، وليست فعّالة في ميادين التنمية والنهضة والتقدم.
كما أنها الفكرة التي حاولت الإتجاهات المغايرة مصادرتها، وإعلان تملكها وبطريقة حصرية، والتباهي بها والتفاخر، وسحبها من ساحة الإتجاهات الدينية، وذلك على خلفية أن الدين بطبعه وطبيعته يفرض قيوداً على العقل، ولا يطلق له العنان، ويخشى منه ومن تفلته، وله سيرة طويلة في النزاع معه.
فهل الإسلام حقاً يخشى العقل والعقلانية ولا يحبذهما؟
أم أن الإسلام لا ينتصر لشيء كانتصاره للعقل، ولا ينتصر على شيء إلا بالعقل.
وهل الدين الذي اتخذ من العقل حجة وبرهاناً وسبيلاً يخشى من العقل!
وهل الدين الذي استعمل في كتابه الكريم، كل أفعال العقل، ودعا لقوم يعقلون، يخشى من العقل!
هذه الإشكالية، هي محور الفصل الأول في هذا الكتاب.
ومن وجه آخر، لماذا ظهرت مواقف الخشية من العقل في أوساط دينية، ظنوا أن لا نجاة لهم ولدينهم وأخلاقهم، إلا في اتباع هذا السبيل؟
وهذه الإشكالية، هي محور الفصل الثاني في هذا الكتاب.
وتطرقت الفصول الأخرى، إلى فكرة العقل والعقلانية في خطاب القرآن الكريم، وفي حقل أصول الفقه، ومن جهة علاقتها بنظرية ختم النبوة.
وعليه، يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى تطوير المعرفة بفكرة العقلانية في المجال الإسلامي، وتنمية الوعي بهذه الفكرة، ولفت الإنتباه إليها، واستعادة الحديث عنها، أملاً في تحويلها إلى عمل وسلوك في حياتنا اليومية، الفردية الإجتماعية.
