عندما يخرج رئيس السلطة الفلسطينية «أبو مازن» في وسائل الإعلام وينعي شخصية من الشخصيات العربية، فلابد أن هذه الشخصية كانت ذات قدر كبير في فلسطين، وربما في الأمة العربية بأسرها، وكيف لا؟! وهذه الشخصية هي شخصية رجل كان رائد «المشروع الثقافي الحديث»، وكاتب إعلان «استقلال فلسطين».. الذي بكاه العالم العربي كله بحسرة.. إنه الشاعر الكبير «محمود درويش».
لقد كان درويش واحدًا من الشعراء العالميين الكبار، وهو لا يحسب على الشعر العربي وحده، وإنما يحسب على التراث الإنساني كله، وهو بالتأكيد شاعر القضية الفلسطينية، ولكنه غاص فيها فاكتشف العام من خلال الخاص، وأدرك الجذور الإنسانية؛ ولذلك أصبح شعره يخاطب الإنسان المظلوم والمقموع، كما أنه – كشاعر – كان يواجه الشر في كل أحواله؛ ولهذا اعتبره العرب والفلسطينيون شاعرهم، ووضعوه في صدارة المقاومة، وصار في الشعر قامة لا تقل عن القامات الكبيرة، التي نحتفل ونحتفي بها في الثقافة العربية، مثله مثل «يوسف إدريس، ونجيب محفوظ، وأم كلثوم، وعبد الوهاب».
لقد عاش درويش وناضل في حيفا شاعرًا، وصحافيًّا؛ فقدم القصائد الأولى التي لا يزال يردها كثيرون، وعبر من موسكو إلى القاهرة فبيروت، وكان يطل علينا مشرقًا وأليفًا؛ ليذكِّرنا بأن طريق فلسطين تمرُّ في القصيدة، وأن القصيدة رمز لكلُ الأحلام المجهضة؛ فالشاعر تماهي مع القضيَّة، ولم نعد نستطيع أن نتبيَّن أيهما يعطي زخمًا للآخر.
وهذا الكتاب يعرفنا بالمؤلف بـ «محمود درويش» منذ مولده وحتى وفاته، كما يقدم لنا جهاده ونضاله من أجل القضية الفلسطينية، كما يبين الدور الريادي للشاعر في ما أدخله على القصيدة العربية من فنيات شعرية وإبداعية، ويسوق أمثلة من روائع قصائده الشعرية الخالدة.
