ظهرت في مجتمع بغداد امرأة إنجليزية فريدة احتلت مكانة بارزة ومارست نفوذًا واسعًا في تأسيس الإدارة الجديدة وفي حكم البلاد بعد الاحتلال البريطاني للعراق (خلال الحرب العالمية الأولى)، وفي السنوات الأولى لقيام الحكومة العراقية تحت الانتداب البريطاني، وشاركت في الحياة السياسية، ودخلت مجتمع الرجال بلا تحفّظ، فجالست ساسة البلاد وحكامها من عراقيين وبريطانيين، وشيوخ العشائر من عرب و ظهرت في مجتمع بغداد امرأة إنجليزية فريدة احتلت مكانة بارزة ومارست نفوذًا واسعًا في تأسيس الإدارة الجديدة وفي حكم البلاد بعد الاحتلال البريطاني للعراق (خلال الحرب العالمية الأولى)، وفي السنوات الأولى لقيام الحكومة العراقية تحت الانتداب البريطاني، وشاركت في الحياة السياسية، ودخلت مجتمع الرجال بلا تحفّظ، فجالست ساسة البلاد وحكامها من عراقيين وبريطانيين، وشيوخ العشائر من عرب وأكراد، ورجال الدين من سنة وشيعة، وزعماء البلد ووجوهه من موالين للسلطة ومعارضين
كانت صفتها الرسمية سكرتيرة شرقية للمعتمد السامي البريطاني في العراق، وكان يلقبها الكثيرون بـ(ملكة العراق غير المتوّجة)، والعراقيون كانوا يسمونها (الخاتون)، فهي إحدى الشخصيات التي رسمت مستقبل العراق السياسي لسنوات عديدة بعد الاحتلال البريطاني
