في تاريخ الأدب العربي قصائد مفردة اشتهرت شهرة واسعة واتخذت كل فريدة منها صفة أو لقباً صار علماً عليها، وكان ذلك دأب العرب منذ جاهليتهم، ومضوا على هذا السنن في عصور الأدب المختلفة بيد أن قصيدة كعب بن زهير التي توجه بها إلى الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ليعلن إسلامه وتوبته عن كفره وعن تهجمه على الإسلام والمسلمين، وقد لقيت من الشهرة والذيوع ما لم تحظ به قصيدة أخرى في تاريخ الأدب في تاريخ الأدب العربي قصائد مفردة اشتهرت شهرة واسعة واتخذت كل فريدة منها صفة أو لقباً صار علماً عليها، وكان ذلك دأب العرب منذ جاهليتهم، ومضوا على هذا السنن في عصور الأدب المختلفة بيد أن قصيدة كعب بن زهير التي توجه بها إلى الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ليعلن إسلامه وتوبته عن كفره وعن تهجمه على الإسلام والمسلمين، وقد لقيت من الشهرة والذيوع ما لم تحظ به قصيدة أخرى في تاريخ الأدب العربي، نظراً لجلالة من وجهت إليه، وسمو المناسبة التي قيلت فيها، واقبل الشعراء يحتذونها، والباحثون يكبون عليها تحليلاً وشرحاً على اختلاف مناهجهم في القديم والحديث.
والكتاب الذي بين يدينا يضم دراسة اعتنت بلملمة كل ما يتصل بهذه القصيدة بدءاً من ترجمة صاحبها، فديوانه، فإسلامه، فنظمه لهذه القصيدة في مدح النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من ثم أورد نص القصيدة كاملاً وذلك ليعي فيما بعد بإثبات كل تعلق بهذه القصيدة، مسمياتها، شروحها، دورها في الاستشهاد اللغوي، والنحوي، والبلاغين والتخميسات التي دونت عليها، والتشطيرات، التضمين من بانت سعاد، قصة البردة، بانت سعاد في بابه التوسل والبركة، بانت سعاد بأقلام معاصريه، بانت سعاد في لغات أعجمية.
