حسين أحمد أمين هو كاتب ومفكر ودبلوماسي مصري، أشهر ما كتب هو كتاب "دليل المسلم الحزين" والذي يشرح حال المسلم اليوم الذي بدأت ثقته تتزعزع بنفسه وبدينه إذ يرى الغرب غير المسلم يتقدم ويتطور في حين يصعب على المسلم مجاراة ذلك التطور فأضحى مسلما حزيناً. كما يصحح بطريقة منهاجية وعقلانية كثير من المفاهيم التي أقحمت في الدين.
أهم كتبه
ولد في القاهرة في 19 يونيو 1932 وتوفى في 16 أبريل 2014. وهو نجل المؤرخ الإسلامي الكبير الدكتور أحمد أمين وأخاه الكاتب جلال أمين تخرج في كلية الحقوق، جامعة القاهرة عام 1953.
عمل محامياً، فمذيعاً بالإذاعة المصرية، فمذيعاً بالقسم العربي بهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية. التحق بالسلك الدبلوماسي المصري وعمل ملحقاً فسكرتيراً ثانياً بالسفارة في موسكو (الاتحاد السوفييتي). فمستشاراً بالسفارة في لاجوس (نيجيريا)، فوزيراً مفوضاً بالسفارة في بون (ألمانيا الاتحادية)، فقنصلاً عاماً في ريو دي جانيرو (البرازيل)، ثم سفيراً لمصر في الجزائر.
انتدب خلال عمله بوزارة الخارجية مستشاراً فنياًَ لوزير الثقافة آنذاك يوسف السباعي. كما أعير للعمل نائباً لمدير مركز الأمم المتحدة للإعلام بالقاهرة.
وقد حصل كتابه دليل المسلم الحزين على جائزة أحسن كتاب في معرض القاهرة الدولي للكتاب عام 1984.

عن المؤلف الأكثر حرجا في تاريخ الاسلام يكتب الدكتور "حسين أحمد أمين" مسرحيته في فصلين.. عن مقتل عقمان بن عفان رضى الله عنه على أيدي الثوار الذين جرموه الماء والطعام وقتلوه غدر وبأيدية المصحف الشريف.. عن تلك اللحظة الفارقة في تاريخ الإسلام فكانت الفتنة التى لم تهدأ إلى يومنا هذا.. مقتل عثمان ومجئ "على بن أبي طالب" وقيام طلحة والزبير وعائشة رضى الله عنهم ضد "على" ثأرا لدم "عثمان" هذه الأحداث التى طالما كتب فيها المؤرخون وتدارسها العلماء. هذه الأحداث التى تداخلت فيها الأطماع السياسية مع العواطف والانفعالات.. لينقسم كل فريق على الآخر مفسرا ومأولا لآيات الله كما يشاء.. هذه الأحداث نجدها في هذا الكتاب مجتمعه جميعا تبين لنا هذه المحنة وتوضح في ثناياها تفاصيل كثيرة منها.. تفاصيل بدات بعثمان وانتهت إلى "على" رضى الله عنهما. ومع أنها احداث كفيلة بكتاب وحدها إلا أننا نجد بعدها أجمل أقوال العرب وحكمهم، وأخيرا فهرسا يضم اهم احداث التاريخ الإسلامي بسنواتها.. أنه كتاب يجمع الكثير بين دفتيه الكثير من التاريخ والحكمة والكثير من الحزن والألم على الإمامين.
