يجتهد الكاتب في الابتعاد عن التعميمات والمواقف السياسية المسبقة ليركّز على التفاصيل الحياتية الدقيقة. وهو يلجأ إلى هذه الشهادة المجهرية للحياة لأنه يرى فيها "وسيلة لتفكيك الحصار، للتخفيف من هول كتلته". هذه الكتابة مرافعة، "مرافعة طويلة أمام القذائف الصمّاء، أمام اليأس والخوف، مرافعة طويلة كمنام طويل.....".

كثيراً ما نضع "زينة" في أحضاننا كي تقدر أن تنام وقت القذائف، وأحياناً نضطر إلى حملها والمشي بها كي تعود إلى النوم بعد كل انفجار. وعلى اعتبار أن وزنها ليس بسيطاً نعود إلى الجلوس حالما تغفو.
من ينظر من بعيد يبدو الأمر وكأني أقف عند كل صفير للقذيفة قبيل انفجارها من باب الاحترام وأعود للجلوس بعد زوال الدوي.
