يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يشرح طبيعة المواقف ووجهات النظر المتشكلة تجاه الديمقراطية في ساحة الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر, وكاشفا عن السياقات والأرضيات الفكرية والتاريخية المؤثرة في تكوين هذه المواقف ووجهات النظر, وكيف تطورت وتحولت في بعض مساراتها ومسلكياتها, ومتتبعا امتدادات هذه المواقف في البيئات والمجتمعات العربية والإسلامية التي شهدت اهتماما بهذه الفكرة.
والنتيجة التي ينتهي إليها ال يحاول هذا الكتاب أن يشرح طبيعة المواقف ووجهات النظر المتشكلة تجاه الديمقراطية في ساحة الفكر الإسلامي المعاصر, وكاشفا عن السياقات والأرضيات الفكرية والتاريخية المؤثرة في تكوين هذه المواقف ووجهات النظر, وكيف تطورت وتحولت في بعض مساراتها ومسلكياتها, ومتتبعا امتدادات هذه المواقف في البيئات والمجتمعات العربية والإسلامية التي شهدت اهتماما بهذه الفكرة.
والنتيجة التي ينتهي إليها الكتاب أن الفكر الإسلامي قطع شوطا متقدما وصاعدا في علاقته بالديمقراطية التي بدأت من الشك في الديمقراطية, ووصلت إلى البحث عن ديمقراطية دينية, وليس هذا بالتأكيد هو نهاية المطاف, فالنقاش حول الديمقراطية ما زال يتجدد ويتسع, الأمر الذي يجعلنا نتوقع حصول تطورات جديدة على هذا الدرب.
يتكون الكتاب من ثلاثة فصول هي:
الفصل الأول: الديمقراطية في الخطاب الإسلامي المعاصر
الفصل الثاني: الفكر الإسلامي والديمقراطية.. السياقات التاريخية والتحولات الفكرية
