ينظر هذا الكتاب إلى النّص الروائي - متناً وخطاباً - على أنه سرد فنيّ منفتح، متباين اللغات، والأصوات، والنبرات ووجهات النظر، يحاكي بأبعاده، وفضاءاته الواقعية، والتخييلية، والحوارية، التنوّع الكلامي، الإجتماعي، ومرجعياته، ومراميه المعلنة، والخفيّة. ويحلل العلاقة بين المؤلف والنص والقارئ، وفعل القراءة من وجهة تفاعلية لا تُغيّبُ طرفاً على حساب الآخر، بل ترى في النص، ومرجعياته الموضوعية، والفنيّة، والتخييلية، بؤرة التأويل، وفضاءه الأول والأخير. وهو يرى أنّ كل قراءة للنّص الروائي لا تعدو في النهاية أن تكون تأويلاً، يحتمل بإنفتاحه تأويلات مشروطة عدة، قد تتفق أو تختلف بهذا القدر أو ذاك، لكنها في النهاية ستعزّز ديمقراطية تلقّيه، وستملأ بياضه وفجواته، وما بين سطوره.
