قد يسأل أحدهم سؤالا معتادا ويقول " إيه الأخبار؟" فيكون الرد المعتاد أيضا "أهى ماشية", وهى إجابة تعنى أن الأمور تسير كالمعتاد وأن الحياة "تسير", ولكن ما لاحظه المؤلف الصحفى الشاب "فاروق الجمل" وسجلة فى موضوعات هذا الكتاب أن الإجابة قد تتطور وتصل إلى "واهى ماشية وبتعدى الشارع"، أي تتسارع بخطواتها للأمام بالرغم أن التطور لم يكن سوى من نصيب الإجابة فقط دون أن يصيب سير الأمور ذاتها التى أصبحت بطبيعة الحال "واقفة", وتحديدا الأمور العامة من إقتصادية وإجتماعية وأخلاقية فى المجتمع المصرى الذى كان مادة ومحور إهتمام هذا الكتاب وكاتبه, فقد أراد بأسلوب ساخر راقى أن يلفت الإنتباه إلى كثير من المشكلات اليومية المحيطة بالإنسان المصرى حيث هاله أن الجميع يتعامل مع هذه المشكلات كالثوابت, يتعايش معها بدلا من تغييرها ومن هنا جاءت الإجابة الساخرة المعبرة الواهمة "واهى ماشية وبتعدى الشارع" فهى فى مضمونها تحمل تفاؤلا ورضا تاما عن واقع لا يحمل على هذا, ومع ذلك لا تتغير الإجابة أبدا فهى دائما "ماشية" لا تتوقف موضوعات الكتاب عند المشكلات ولكنها فى مجملها تتناول أوضاعا وعادات خاطئة أو متناقضة أو غير منطقية فهى فى جميعها سلبية, وهو معها دائما يعرضها بأسلوب سلس عذب يمزج بين الفصحى والعامية المصرية، يثير الضحكة والتساؤل ويحرك الأفكار الراكدة فى العقول, فالضحك فى هذا الكتاب هدف ووسيلة ومتعة, وهو ضحك على الهموم ليس للإستهزاء منها ولكن بحثا عن استساغة لمرارتها فى الحلوق, فالكتاب جاء من جراء اكتشاف المؤلف للواقع وعلى حد قوله "جاتلى فكرة الكتاب, لما اكتشفت اننا عايشين فى مسرحية كوميدية, ولكنها كوميديا سوداء, على طريقة (هم يضحك)".
