في مساء يوم السبت الموافق الثالث من فبراير 2007 .. وفي تمام الساعة الخامسة..وفى كبرى قاعات معرض القاهرة الدولى للكتاب.. بقاعة 6 أكتوبر "القاعة الرئيسية" أطل سمير سرحان بروحه إلى المعرض دون جسده.. أتى مكرماً من قبل هيئة الكتاب- التى رأسها لمدة تقترب من العشرين عاماً.
وفي وسط هذه الأجواء وجدتنى فى حالة من الوجل ولحزن.. دار فى خلدى كثير من كلماته ومحاوراته، وربما ضحكاته التى شهدتها هذه القاعة على مدى سنوات طويلة مضت، بل وكنت شاهداً عليها طلة أربع سنوات فقط.. هى فترة عملى بمكتبه.. أنظر إلى المنصة فأرى صورته عليها.. ألتفت ورائى فأشاهده فى جنبات القاعة.. وجدتنى أتذكر كثيراً من مواقفه الإنسانية. آخر سطر، وفكرت فى أن أقوم بكتابة هذه الأحداث وأسجل تلك المواقف مستعيناً فى ذلك بكتبه.
