تكورت المدينة حول نفسها أكثر من أي وقت مر في حياتها ، ضاقت شوارعها والتفت حول نفسها لتصبح قصيرة تحت خطوات المارين· أمر ما يحرك كل شيء على إيقاع خوف مجهول· بين ليلة وأخرى قد تفقد عددا من أولادها ، كل واحد أصبح عرضة للاحتراق في نار الجنون التي لا تفرق بين أحد· الشباب يقادون إلى المعتقلات دون سبب ظاهر ، المصائر تتراقص قلقة على الأوراق التي تتنقل بسرية تامة خلف أسوار الدوائر العالية، وتترك أثارها نواحا مكتوما في بيوت لا تعرف لماذا غادرها سكانها، وامتلأت المدينة بالشك، حتى الأحاديث السرية اقتلعت من الرؤوس وقمعت· كل شيء واضح لكنه ممنوع وخطير إلى درجة جعلت الحياة تحبو على ركبتيها بأيامها المستنسخة ، والأحاديث المحددة سلفا· صار أمل الجميع أن لا يكون الغد أسوأ واكتسح النفوس يأس مرير·
