تمكن المسلمون و اليهود و المسيحيون، في الأندلس العربية، من إبداع ثقافة للتسامح. كانت الثقافة الأندلسية في هذه الفترة ثقافة امتزاج واختلاط وتفاعل، وكان المجتمع يعيش في رخاء و غنى، حيث تتجاور الافكار والنصوص و تتمازج وثسري بلغات هجينة بدورها. تعيد ماريا روزا مينوكال رسم تاريخ الاندلس العربية بين القرن الخامس عشر الملاديين، اعتمادا على (زخارف بارزة) أو وجوه معروفة: شعراء تربادور, فلاسفة , مثقفين, رجال علم أو سياسة, قصور ومكتبات , وحدائق (جنات كما كانت تسمى) , ومساجد وكنائس وكنس. ولكن اشعاع هذه الحضارة والعلاقات التي أنشأتها مع أوربا ومع الحوض المتوسطي كبحه تصاعد عدم التسامح الديني وظهور الطاعون الأسود . من هنا يكون هذا الكتاب دعوة الى القراءة مختلفة لتاريخ الأندلس العربية والنظر الى تاريخ التأثيرات الثقافية الأروبية نظرة أخرى , وخاصة فيما يرتبط بالعلاقة بين الثقافة العربية و الغرب. وتبين المؤلفة أن هذه الفترة العجيبة و المدهشة للأندلس العربية تشكل حثما جزءا من الميراث الثقافي العالمي ومن مستقبل العالم، ذالك أنها رسمت صورة جديدة للعالم الغربي ووضعت أسسه الثقافية التي كانت منطلق حداثته.
