في بهو فندق "نيو مينرفا" أو الجنة الجديدة كانت السيدة العجوز تجلس على إحدى الطاولات تطرز مفرشاً بألوان زاهية، وبجوارها فتاة طويلة القامة مقتضبة السحنة وفي أرجاء الفندق أغنية "الخلود" لسيلين ديون تملئ قاعة الإستقبال وكان هناك مطر خفيف في الشارع الذي كان يسمعه مصطفى ينقر زجاج الفندق ويداعب مياه القناة برقة، سجل مصطفى البيانات في دفتر الفندق بينما أنشغل خليل بمراقبة الفتاة التي لم تعريه أي أهتمام غير أبتسامات مصطنعة وغير تلقائية، كانت هناك على كونتر الأستقبال أزهرية بها زهور التيوليب التي أخذ خليل يتأملها بمحبة، على الجانب الآخر كان هناك دفتر يشبه كتاب الزمان حيث يسجل فيه النزلاء أنطباعاتهم حول الفندق، فكر مصطفى في أن يكتب قصيدة في هذا السجل قبل أن يغادره.
