اللهجة الجغتائية تنتمى إلى مجموعة لهجات آسيا الوسطى من بين لجهات الأسرة التركية، وهى لهجة أدبية كانت مستخدمة من بداية القرن الخامس عشر حتى أوائل القرن العشرين ، وتعد الأوزبكية والاويغورية أكثر اللهجات قربا منها ، وتشكل اللهجة الجغتائية المرحلة الثالثة من تطور لغة الكتابة التركية فى وسط آسيا من القرن الحادى عشر حتى القرن التاسع عشر . واللهجة الجغتائية التى تطورت فى فترة حكم التيموريين ( 1405 – 1502 م ) كاستمرار للهجات التركية الخاقانية أو القراخانية فى القرون من الحادى عشر حتى الثالث عشر ، والتركية الخوارزمية فى القرن الرابع عشر قد أخذت الشكل القديم لتلك اللهجات ولاسيما فى أعمال نوائى ( 1441 – 1501 م) . كانت للهجة الجغتائية مكانة كبيرة لعدة قرون ، ولم تستخدم لغة رسمية للدولة والأدب والدبلوماسية فى الدول التركية فى آسيا الوسطى وتركستان الشرقية فحسب ، ولكنها استخدمت أيضاُ لغة أدبية للأتراك المسلمين فى روسيا الأوربية حى أوساط القرن التاسع عشر ، واللهجة الأدبية التركية التى كانت مستخدمة باسم ” سارت ” فى التركستان بعد الاحتلال الروسى تعد أيضاً أحد أشكال اللهجة الجغتائية ، و قد تطورت تحت تأثير اللهجات الأوزبكية المحلية ، وحلت اللهجة الأوزبكية محل اللهجة الأدبية الجغتائية فى أوزبكستان بشكل نهائى عام 1921 م ، ولم تنقرض اللهجة الجغتائية تماما حتى بعد أن تحولت لغة الكتابة إلى الأوزبكية
