كانت السيارة صغيرة، فاندفع نحو المقعد الخلفي، وما أن استقر بالمقعد، حتى انتباتني هواجس عديدة، وتداعيات وأسئلة، وقلت لنفسي: "ترى هل يحمل مسدسـا، وهل سيجبرنا أثناء العـودة على الوقـوف أمام مركز للجنود العراقيين". وهكذا أخذت الأفكار السوداوية والكوابيس تنهال على مخيلتي، وربما هذا ما كان يدور في رأس نوال أيضا. ورغم هذا الشعور القاتم الذي تولد في نفسي، إلا أنني تماسكت وانطلقت بالسيارة نحو البيت، لكني لم أتمكن من التغلب على هاجس الاعتداء عليَّ أو على نوال طوال الطريق، وكنت أتوقع بين لحظة وأخرى أن يمد يده فجأة على رقبتي أو على رقبتها لخنقي أو لخنقها، أو القيام بعمل ما ليؤذينا. وما أن لاحت لنا منازل الأحياء الســكنية حتى تنفســنا الصعداء، وشعرنا بنـوع من الراحـة عبرنا عنها بالابتسامات التي علت وجوهنا أخيرا بعد طول وجوم.
