اختارت "منى بشلم" لمجموعتها القصصية هذه عنوان (احتراق السراب) وهي أداة للقياس أو المسافة التي سوف تتحرك خلالها الحكايات ولعلها أرادت أن تومئ من خلال هذا الاختيار الى الإجابة عن سؤال بقدر ما تبدو الإجابة عنه بديهية بقدر ما تظهر صعبة ومتشابكة عند الوقوف عليه وهو: هل يستحق الحلم أن نضحي لأجلها بكل شيء، وعند الحد الفاصل بين الحقيقة والحلم تنساب القصص لتتحدث عن أحلام النساء والرجال معاً، فتكون الكتابة عند "منى شلم" مجالاً للبوح، عبر نصوص سردية فريدة في تركيبتها، كل واحدة منها تقرأ على هذه ولكن بجمعها تفتح كل واحدة منها على الاخرى أفقاً أوسع للإجابة على السؤال الذي تمحور عليه العمل برمته حينما تتخذ "بشلم" موقفاً من الحياة، وهي تكتشف الحلم عند كل شخصية من شخصيات العمل والذي ما يلبث أن يتحول الى سراب عند نهاية كل حكاية، وهكذا هي الحياة. يضم الكتاب (6) قصص قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "هوامش الوجع"، "براءة بياض"، "رسائل ألف عام خلت"، "سيجارة لمنتصف الحلم"، "رجال الحافة الحادة" "سراديب القدر".
