الكتاب طبعة أولى. بقيت معظم شعوب الأمة الإسلامية، حيرى تتلفت ذات اليمين وذات الشمال، تستجدي منهاجاً تتبعه، أو قوياً ينصفها في قضاياها الدولية، أو علماً وثقافة تتلقفها وتلقنها لأبنائها، مع أن الله قد أنعم عليها بشريعة التوحيد، وحباها نظاماً تربوياً، تناقله الناس عملياً ونظرياً، منذ أن بدأ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يربي أصحابه وأبناءه ونساءه ونساء المسلمين عليه... وكان العلماء، وهم ورثة الأنبياء، يقودون المجتمعات الإسلامية في الأزمات، ويربونهم مقتفين أثر خاتم الأنبياء صلى الله عليه وسلم. وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلف ما أمكنه استنباطه من آراء واتجاهات تربوية لعالم جليل، هو الإمام تاج الدين السبكي الذي لم يكن عالماً جليلاً فحسب، بل كان قاضياً عدلاً، وحاكماً سمحاً، شغل منصب قاضي القضاة، فاستلم بذلك مهمات وزارة الأوقاف، وشؤون وزارة التربية والمعارف، وأمور وزارة العدل، وأشرف على المدارس والعلماء، وعلى المحاكم والحسبة والقضاة، فكان هذا الإنسان الذي حنكته التجارب، وصقلت المحن ما عنده، فقدم خلاصة خبراته، وزبدة تجاربه في مؤلفاته، فعمد مؤلف هذا الكتاب إلى تلك المؤلفات للإمام السبكي لاستنباط ما جادت به قريحته التربوية في هذه المجالات ثم صنف ما قدمه إلى كل هؤلاء من توجيهات تربوية، استفادها من خبراته في معترك الحياة وفي ضخم المجتمع في كل المجالات... فوجده يخاطب كلاً منهم بما يناسب مقامه، ويوجه بما يلائم طبيعة عملهم ووظيفته، مع تصحيح عادات مجتمعه وما رأى فيه من انحراف. فاستخرج المؤلف ما تركه بذلك من نظريات وأساليب جديدة في تربية الساسة والحكام، وفي تخريج المربين والعلماء، وفي توجيه المهنيين والحرفيين على اختلاف أعمالهم، مبيناً ما زود الإمام السبكي المجتمع الإسلامي به من نظرات تربوية نقدية، وضح فيها عيوب العلماء، مزيفاً أدعياء العلم والتعليم، فكان من مؤلف هذا الكتاب أن استنبط ما ذُكر من علاج لتصحيح كل ما وجد من عيوب وأدواء، بادئاً بإصلاح النيات والقلوب، وتوجيه الهمم والعواطف نحو الإخلاص لعلاّم الغيوب.
