إن الاجتهاد والتجديد والتطوير والنهوض تكليف مستمر، وملف مفتوح دائماً، وأن النقد والتقديم والمراجعة والمفاكرة والمشاورة، هي أدوات هذا الاجتهاد والتجديد، وهذا لا يتحقق ما لم تغزو في الذهن الثقافي الإسلامي مساحات أكبر للنقد ومجالات أوسع لمراكز البحوث والدراسات ومراكز المعلومات ونوعية البحوث المعتمدة لرسائل الدراسات العليا، لأن المشكلة ليست في نصوص الدين الخالد، وإنما بمفهوم الناس في التعامل مع قيم الدين.
المشكلة تكمن في غياب الفهم القديم للأحداث المتجددة، في ضوء النص القرآني الخالد، والانعتاق من عقدة الوهم، التي تشكلت عبر ظروف غير طبيعية، من أن الحجر على العقل إنما يكون لصالح الوحي، دون أن ندري أن الحجر على العقل وإغلاق منافذ الاجتهاد والتجديد، محاصرة للوحي الخالد، وعزل للإسلام عن مصالحة قضايا الإنسان، وإيجاد الفراغ لامتداد الآخر، الأمر الذي يكرس العجز والتخلف والتبعية، ويقضي على أي أمل في النهوض والاجتهاد والتجديد، وبذلك يكون النكول عن مهمة التجديد التي بها يستمر التدين الصحيح، وتنتفي العلل ونوابت السوء. وهذا الكتاب عبارة عن محاولة جاءت في فترات متقاربة، ليقدم المؤلف من خلالها ملاحظات في قضايا التجديد والاجتهاد وبعض نماذج من رواد التجديد والإصلاح، وذلك بغاية المساهمة بتحريك الركود، ولتشكيل إضاءة تضم إلى غيرها في هذا المجال، وذلك لمعاودة إخراج الأمة المسلمة للناس، والخروج من النفق المظلم الذي أدخلت فيه.
