المؤلفة تشير في مقدمة الكتاب إلى منهجها في دراسة النصوص المسرحية السعودية خلال حقبة الثمانينات والتسعينات الميلادية ، وعرضها للتحليل الأدبي ، ودراسة مدى ما حققته من وعي درامي في كيفية توظيف كتابها السعوديين لعناصر الدراما وفق طبيعتها وأصولها الفنية ،بجانب محاولة التعرف على القضايا التي تناولتها هذه النصوص، ولأن المسرح السعودي يواجه ظروفا ثقافية واجتماعية خاصة ، اعتنى الكتاب بدراسة ما أحدثته هذه الظروف من تأثير في نمط الكتابة الدرامية المسرحية. وتذكر أيضا أن المسرح الذي يعد فنا مهاجرا إلى المجتمع السعودي ،يواجه الكثير من الاستهجان والرفض من قبل المحافظين والمتوجسين ريبة منه ، والناظرين إليه على أنه نوع من المجون والفساد وضرب من التسلية غير المفيدة ، ليس سهلا أن يتم استنباته في بيئة محافظة،"عندما نستعير فنا كالمسرح له مصاحبات فكرية واعتقادية وجذور تاريخية ،يقتضي ذلك منا أن نكيف النص ونتكيف معه ، لا بما يتناسب مع ذائقتنا الفنية فحسب ، بل بالنسبة إلى ما يصاحب النص دلاليا وجماليا في السياق الاجتماعي والتقليد اللغوي والفني والأدبي"،وذلك ما حرص عليه الكتاب السعوديون في تجاربهم المسرحية. لقد كانت غاية الكتابة للمسرح في السابق معالجة قضايا وإشكاليات في مجتمع محافظ يخشى مواجهة الأسئلة ولا يفكر كثيرا بالمستقبل ، وليس معتادا على تعدد الأصوات واختلافها بحرية على خشبة المسرح . وكان التحدي المفروض تأسييس خطاب مسرحي مرتبط بهوية الانسان وعلاقته مع المكان الذي يفرض شروطا قاسية على الابداع، وفي الوقت نفسه مواكبة الحركة المسرحية العالمية في وقت قياسي.
