يتناول هذا الكتاب حال الأمة العربية في عام 2005 من خلال التركيز على ثمانية موضوعات رؤي أنها تغطي التطورات الرئيسة التي مرّت بالأمة في ذلك العام. تناول اثنان منها النظام العربي من منظور شامل مرة بالتركيز على التفاعلات بين الدول العربية في إطار النظام العربي الرسمي، وثانية بتتبع عملية الإصلاح السياسي داخل النظام، واختصت الموضوعات الأربعة التالية بالقضايا العربية المحورية في عام 2005 وهي القضية الفلسطينية والعلاقات السورية ـ اللبنانية، والأوضاع في كل من العراق والسودان، ثم تناول الموضوع السابع أهم ملامح الوضع الاقتصادي العربي في ذلك العام، واختتم بتحليل الدور الإيراني في المنطقة العربية. وقد أظهر التحليل في مختلف الموضوعات السابقة تفاقم المخاطر والتهديدات المحدقة بالأمة سواء كان مصدرها نابعاً من داخل النظام العربي نفسه أو من بيئته الإقليمية والعالمية، غير أن التحليل أظهر في الوقت نفسه أن قوى المقاومة والتغيير قد واصلت فعلها الإيجابي كما تمثل في استمرار صمود المقاومة الفلسطينية وتفويض الشعب الفلسطيني ديمقراطياً لها في الإمساك بزمام قيادة مسيرته، ومثابرة المقاومة العراقية على إنهاك المحتل واستنزافه، والصعود النسبي لبعض قوى التغيير وحركة الجماهير في عدد من الأقطار العربية، الأمر الذي يمكن النظر إليه باعتباره إشارة واعدة بمستقبل عربي أفضل.
