هذه رسالة موجزة جامعة.. تشرح معنى أرفع وأقدس كلمة في الوجود. هي كلمة التقوى.. وهي كلمة الإخلاص.. وهي شهادة الحق.. ورأس هذا الأمر.. ولأجلها خلق الخلق.. وأرسلت الرسل.. وأنزلت الكتب. (وما أرسلنا من قبلك من رسول إلا نوحى إليه أنه لا إله إلا أنا فاعبدون). فهي مفتاح دعوة الرسل.. وشعار المؤمنين. إنها.. لا إله إلا الله. كلمة تخرق الحجب.. وتنير السماوات والأرض..
يبحث الكاتب في إيجاز معنى هذه الكلمة: من حيث لفظها، وضبطها، وإعرابها، ومعناها، وحكمها، وحقها أو لازمها، ونواقضها، وبيان فضلها، وفوائدها..
وكان واضحاً في منهجه من خلال عنوان رسالته "الكلام المنتقى"، ومما قاله في آخرها: "جمعه ولخصه". فقد اختار وانتقى وجمع.. وحصل مراجع عديدة تعينه في ذلك.
وإنما كان هذا جواباً على مجموعة أسئلة، طلب الإجابة عليها أحد العلماء -كما في أول المقدمة- وهو الشيخ محمد بن أحمد الحفظي، من رجال ألمع.
والمؤلف من علماء نجد، رحل إلى الدرعية، فقرأ على الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب، كما أخذ عن ابنيه عبد الله وحسين، وقرأ على الشيخ حمد بن ناصر بن معمر، وغيرهم من علماء الدرعية. ولما تفقه عينه الإمام عبد العزيز بن محمد قاضياً في حوطة بني تميم وما حولها من بلدان جنوبي نجد، فقام بالقضاء والإفتاء والتدريس فيها. واستمر في القضاء حتى توفي في ولاية الإمام عبد الله بن سعود عام 1229هـ.
