يستعرض هذا الكتاب الفريد من نوعه ضمن الإصدارات الموجودة باللغة الفرنسية مناهج السوسيولوجيا المقارنة ومكتسباتها على مستوى معرفة الظواهر السياسية المختلفة. ويقترح في هذا الإطار تفسيرات غير مسبوقة لطبيعة ممارسة السلطة وتحولاتها. وقد ركز المؤلفان اهتمامهما أساساً على التغيرات الملاحظة حالياً في الديمقراطيات الغربية والأزمات السياسية والاجتماعية التي طالت بلدان الجنوب. لذلك، شكل التحليل المقارن أداةً فعّالة لمعالجة التقاليد السياسية في المجتماعت الغربية وتلك ذات القيم والممارسات المغايرة للغرب، ومن ضمنها البلدان العربية والإسلامية. وبناء على ما تقدم، قسم المؤلفات الكتاب إلى ثلاثة أقسام، توزعت إلى ثمانية فصول وفق ما يلي: القسم الأول: "بناء المقارنة"، الفصل الأول: المنهج المقارن، الفصل الثاني: نظريات التحليل ومتغيراته؛ القسم الثاني: "السلطة السياسية المقارنة"، الفصل الثالث: الدينامية الغربية، الفصل الرابع: الديناميات الموجودة خارج الغرب، الفصل الخامس: الديناميات اليتيمة، القسم الثالث: "التعبير السياسي المقارّن"، الفصل السادس: التعبير المؤسساتي، الفصل السابع: التعبير المراقب، الفصل الثامن، التعبير خارج النظام.
