تماماً كما يخطط الفنان لوحته قبل الشروع بها، يبدأ صالح السهيمي قصصه القصيرة بحوارات يخرج الكثير منها من فلك الذات المبدعة باتجاه مدارات أخرى أكثر عمقاً، بل أكثر إحساسا بواقع الناس، وواقع مجتمعه، يكشف من خلالها، صوراً، وحكايا، تتقاطع مكوناتها مع صور الحياة المتعددة والمتنافرة، فيها الظالم والمظلوم، وفيها القوي والضعيف، وفيها الوصولي المخادع كما في "مشالح مزيفة" إحدى قصص المجموعة. حيث يعكس الروائي حال العلم في بلاده الذي يقوم بإدارته أناس غير أكفاء يصفهم بالمزيفون أمثال (ساعد) وكيل الجامعة، و (سعود) مدير المالية "يعني حاميها حراميها!". فيتذكر قول جده ذات مساء جميل: "كن أسد تأكل مشعاب، وكن ذرّة تاكل سكّر"!. وهكذا في بقية قصص المجموعة حيث يتناول الروائي "قضايا عامة" ما تزال تشغل مجتمعاً عربياً معنياً، فنجح في أن يرسم للمعيش في هذا المجتمع شبيهاً روائياً.
