هذا الكتاب يعالج الوضع الأفغاني بأبعاده الدولية والمناطقية والشأن الأفغاني.
يظهر الكتاب من خلال الدراسة والمتابعة والمقابلات أن القاعدة نشطت في العراق بعد سقوط النظام العراقي وذلك على خلاف ما يردده أقطاب الإدارة الأميركية عن وجود خيط سري بين القاعدة والحكومة العراقية السابقة. ويذكر الكتاب أن النشاط القاعدي برز من خلال جماعة التوحيد والجهاد بزعامة أبي مصعب الزرقاوي الذي شارك في معركة طورة بورة ليغادر بعدها إلى إيران ثم العراق. أما النشاط القاعدي الثاني فكان من خلال جماعة أنصار الإسلام الكردية العراقية.
يتطرق الكتاب إلى التوتر الخفي الحاصل بين المجموعات السنية البلوشية والمتعاطفة مع تنظيم القاعدة في إيران وبين الحكومة على خلفية اعتقال بعض قادة وناشطي القاعدة وعلى رأسهم المتحدث الرسمي باسم القاعدة سليمان أبو غيث ومسؤول جهاز أمن القاعدة سيف العدل وكذلك سعد بن لادن نجل زعيم التنظيم. ويذكر الكتاب بعض العمليات التي نفذتها هذه المجموعات في إيران وتهديداتها بتحمل عواقب تسليم هذه العناصر إلى أميركا. ويأتي الكتاب في ظل توزيع القاعدة لشريط مصور عن معسكرات تدريباتها في أفغانستان مما يحمل رسالة قاعدية واضحة تتمثل في فشل الذريعة التي قامت على أساسها الحرب على ما يوصف بالإرهاب في أفغانستان وهي تفكيك معسكرات التدريب لتعود بقوة الآن، بالإضافة إلى تكثيف العمليات العسكرية من قبل ثلاثية القاعدة وطالبان والحزب الإسلامية بزعامة قلب الدين حكمتيار.
