لله در هذه الأمة! لا يكاد تُنكَّس لها راية حتى يبعث الله فيها ساعدًا مؤيَّدًا من قبله يتناولها ويعليها ويعيد لها خفقانها، ولا يكاد يغشاها النُّعاس حتى يظن الظانَّ أن لا أمل في فواق، فيبعث الله فيها مؤذنًا ينادي باليقظة حتى تستيقظ الأمة. وفي هذا الكتاب نبسط لتاريخ صحوة إسلامية شهدها القرن السادس الهجري، أيقظت المسلمين من سباتهم، وحفزتهم للنهوض في وجه الصليبيين الذين وطئوا كثيرًا من أراضي الإسلام واستوطنوا إماراتها، فظهر فرسان مسلمون مخلصون استُنفرت حميتهم؛ فقادوا هذه الصحوة بعزيمة واقتدار. فكان من نجومها الأمير شرف الدين مودود والأمير طغتكين، ثم الفارس عماد الدين زنكي الذي أربك الصليبيين وشتت جمعهم ودكَّ كثيرًا من معاقلهم، وقبل أن يموت أورث دولة الإسلام فارسًا مثله أخذ عنه سيفه ودرعه وأكمل الملحمة، فكان بطل الإسلام نور الدين محمود الذي مضى يؤسس دولة إسلامية فتية أعادت للمسلمين هيبتهم وردت عنهم كيد عدوهم، فوحَّد كثيرًا من البلاد الإسلامية تحت إمرته، واسترد كثيرًا من الحصون المسلوبة، واستطاع بإخلاص سريرته وحسن سيرته أن ينشر عبير الخلافة الراشدة في أروقة دولته؛ ممَّا حدا ببعض المؤرخين أن يلقبوه بـ"سادس الخلفاء الراشدين"، حيث ترك نور الدين بحسن صنيعه أسوة حسنة لحكام أرادوا الله واليوم الآخر؛ حيث صار حجة بينة عليهم ببعد عهده عن العصر النبوي واسترعائه على رعية كان حالها قريب من حالنا, وكأن لسان حاله يقول لهم: ذلك لمن شاء منكم أن يستقيم. وفي هذا الكتاب تتعرف - عزيزي القارئ - على نور الدين الإنسان والحاكم والمجاهد والفاتح في فترة من أخصب فترات التاريخ الإسلامي
