يسرد المؤلف الأستاذ علي مروّة، رئيس بلدية جباع، تاريخ هذه القرية اللبنانية والجنة الضائعة التي انطلق منها الفكر العاملي وشع في لبنان والأقطار الشرقية حيث تناول القسم الأكبر من الكتاب تراجم المشهورين من نوابغ جباع: فقهاء وعلماء وأدباء، وشعراء، وفي طليعتهم، في العهد الأول، الشيخ زين الدين الجبعي المعروف - بالشهيد الثاني - وفي العهد الثاني الشيخ عبد الله نعمة الكبير، يحفُّ بهما نحو الستين من رجال الفكر، حملة العلم والأدب، أقاموا من جباع، على مختلف عصورها، ملتقى العلماء وسوق عكاظ الأدباء، وجعلوا منها أحد موائل المعرفة في لبنان، أيام كان ظلام الجهل يخيم على الكثير من أقطار الضاد.
وقد تخلل هذين الفصلين فصل أليم خصّه الكاتب يذكر "الحوادث والكوارث" التي مُنيت بها بلدته بل منطقة جبل عامل بأسرها، حتى إذا أقبل العصر الحاضر اغتبطنا بتباشير النهضة التي أخذت تعطي ثمارها اليانعة، فترفع جباع إلى مستوى البلدان العصرية مرافق عمرانية، وخدمات إجتماعية.
ولقد جمع الكاتب معلومات شاملة في هذا الموضوع إحصائيات سكنية وبشرية وإقتصادية مع الخطوط البيانيّة والخرائط والتصاميم الموضحة.
جباع هذه الكلمة التي يتجاوز معناها بضع كيلومترات من الأرض، هل تستحق كتابة تاريخ؟!!
والتاريخ، اعتراف بتأثير الشيء أو عطائه لأوضاع الإنسان كل إنسان، وشهادة حق مقبولة أما العالم؛ جباع هذه، هل تستحق كتابة تاريخ؟
