أذكر أنني وقبل أن أغفو، نظرت كثيراً في صرخة وجه ذلك الرجل المصنوع له التمثال، وبدا لي «شبيه بصرخة» تلك المرأة في المحل. ثم تركت خيالي يسرح على هواه، مطمئناً من النوم تحت التمثال، عوضاً عن النوم بين «الصحاحير» وفي مداخل الأبنية، وذلك لأن ضوء وهواء ساحة الشهداء كانا يُدخلان الاطمئنان الى نفسي. أذكر أني فتحت عينيَّ وتقلبت على جانبيّ، ثم نمت على ظهري محدقاً في النجوم. مع بدء انقشاع ضوء الفجر، حيث كانت السماء صافية ولونها يميل نحو الأزرق النيلي، والنجوم تشع بالقرب منها، وحولها مساحات صغيرة من الضوء الممزوج ما بين الأبيض والرمادي، تمنيت لو كان دفتري معي كي أكتب، وبكيت، ثم عدت ونمت بعد أن مسحت دمعتي
