وُلِد من عائلة من المصرفيين والصناعيين اللبنانيين، وهو مسؤول عن اللجنة الاقتصادية في التيار الوطني الحر الذي أسّسه ويقوده الجنرال ميشال عون.
بدأ نقولا الصحناوي نضاله في عام 1988 ملبّيًا نداء الجنرال عون الداعي إلى وضع حدّ لسيطرة الميليشيات واستعادة السيادة اللبنانية.
وأسوةً بمعظم اللبنانيين، فقد نقولا شخصًا عزيزًا على قلبه، إذ قضت والدته في الثالثة والأربعين من العمر إثر القصف السوري على بيروت في السادس من آب/ أغسطس 1989.
وفي عام 2009، ترشّح للإنتخابات النيابية عن المقعد الكاثوليكي في بيروت وحصد 47% من أصوات الناخبين في مواجهة منافسه الذي فاز بنسبة 53% من الأصوات.
قلّما أثبطت الهزيمة عزمه، بل على العكس، فأعلن في اليوم التالي عن بدء حملته استعدادًا لانتخابات عام 2013.

بعد عشر سنوات من المحاولات العقيمة، فشل السلام الأميركي أو ما يُعرَف بالـ \"باكس أميريكانا\". من باكستان وصولًا إلى العراق، أفلت الشرق الأدنى من قبضة الإمبراطورية الأميركية. وبالرغم من أنّ لبنان بلدٌ صغير، إلّا أنّه لطالما كان ولا يزال يشكّل مسرحًا رئيسيًا لذاك الصراع الذي يحمل في طيّاته رهانات عالمية. وقد مثّلت الطائفة المسيحية اللبنانية خصوصًا، محور المعركة، وفيها عددٌ من الأحزاب، وفي طليعتها التيار الوطني الحرّ، الذي تجرّأ على رفض تسخير طائفته لحساب إدارة أميركية لن تتوانى لحظة عن التضحية بها كما فعلت بمسيحيي العراق أو فلسطين. يروي الكاتب تجربته النضالية، ويصف شروط النضال والدوافع التي تحفّز جيله، راسمًا في الوقت عينه صورة للأوضاع المحلية والإقليمية، مع تسليط الضوء على التحديات الإجتماعية والاقتصادية الماثلة أمام دعاة الإصلاح.
