"كيف صار الحب ذلاً وهواناً، وبعد أن كان سلاماً وأماناً، كيف أمسى شوكةً في العين تدمع، بعد أن كان وروداً وجناناً، كيف يا قلب سعدنا مرةً، فإذا بالسعد يمضي لسوانا وبقينا هكذا أينام حبٍّ، ناله الدهر ولم يرحم هوانا فإذا نحن على الأرض التي شهدت من حبنا أولى خطانا نزرع الشوك ولكن ماؤه من دموع العين من حرٍّ دمانا، كلما زقزق عصور لنا، حلته ينعي إلينا ملتقانا، وإذا رافَّ النسيم الغصن دوت، صرصر بحيث جذري والكيانا، صار ما نرجوه ذكرى قد طوت في بطون الدهر أحلاما مسانا، وإذا هينٌ على الماضي وأخرى ترقب الآتي ولكن لا ترانا.
يجىء هذا الديوان ليؤكد في طبعته الثانية، أن الأصالة في الفن وفي الشعر خاصة، هي الدلال على الحقيقة، والأقدار على تمثلها حيث تعانق الذكريات الطموحات، وتأتلف الرؤى الحالمة مع المباشر المائل من غير تناقض أو تضاد، بل معاً على طريق سوى من غير نشوز ولا نفور، ليرتفع الواقع غلى عالم من المثل السامية صوّى على طريق الحق والخير والجمال. وهكذا تتجاوز الشعرية التقريرية بأحكامها الصارمة، والظاهرة العلمية المحدودة بمدركاتها الحية إلى المطلق... واللانهائي... والمجرد.
