"لعل حروب الإمبراطورية الأمريكية النفطية العلنية في بداية القرن الواحد والعشرين كانت نتيجة إدراك الولايات المتحدة بأن بداية النهاية لعصر النفط -ابتداءً من بداية نهاية عصر النفط الرخيص- قد بدأت، حيث أصبحت الولايات المتحدة مستوردة لأكثر من ثلثي احتياجاتها النفطية. وحيث أن منطقتنا هي الحاملة لأكثر من ثلثي احتياطي العالم ذات الكلفة الأرخص في استخراجه فقط اندفعت الولايات المتحدة لغزو أفغانستان ومن ثم العراق بطريقة "القاتل أو المقتول". غير آبهة بمعارضة الحلفاء والأعداء على حد سواء. وكما يبين هذا الكتاب فإن عملية غزو واحتلال حقول نفط الشرق الأوسط العربية والإسلامية قد بدأ التفكير به ثم التخطيط له ثم التدرج في تنفيذه منذ السبعينات من القرن العشرين. وكما أن النفط سلاح (إعمار) شامل قامت عليه المدنية الغربية الحديثة بأكملها فإنه أيضاً سلاح (دمار) شامل يمكن أن يدمر أي اقتصاد يتم حرمانه منه، وتريد الولايات المتحدة أن تكون صاحبة قرار هذا الإعمار أو الدمار.
إن احتلال العراق لم يكن محاولة تسوية حسابات قديمة أو مجرد تطبيق لقرارات مجلس الأمن الدولي الخاص بنزع سلاح العراق... وإنما جاء كأول تطبيق لاستراتيجية إدارة بوش الخاصة بالحروب الاستباقية المثيرة للجدل ليشكل نقطة تحول تاريخي على امتلاك واشنطن الفعلي للأمن الاستراتيجي في عصر العولمة وكان نقطة تحول للولايات المتحدة من جمهورية إلى إمبراطورية هذا العصر.
ليس للإمبراطوريات أصدقاء ولا صداقات، مات ماركوس في منفاه وضاقت الأرض بما رحبت لقبر يواري به جثمان شاه إيران وأصبح مانويل نورييغا بعد تدرجه إلى عميل من الدرجة الممتازة إلى سجين رقمه 41586 في أحد سجون الولايات المتحدة.
