"تحولات الرجل اليماني" مقالات كتبت في فترات متفاوتة، وفي مناسبات مختلفة؛ إلا أنها جميعها يربط بينها خيط، وهم واحد يوالف بينها وهو همّ المثقف العربي الذي ما زال في بحث مستمر عن دور في مواجهة هذا الخراب الذي جعل الأمريكان والصهاينة والاستبداد عاماً وموزعاً على جغرافية الوطن العربي الكبير. وهو إذ يواجه أسئلة الراهن والمستقبل من تنوير وتثوير واستشراف، ودفاع عن الكرامة والحرية، فإنه في الوقت نفسه يكتشف أن بين صفوف الحركة الثقافية العربية من يدّعي أنه مثقف وهو ربيب السلطة ونديمها، أو أنه وسطي معتدل وهو مهادن وخائف، لذلك صار لزاماً على باحث ما أن يعدّ دراسة في "طبقات المثقفين العرب" في الزمن الحديث.
إن ما يعني الكاتب في مجموعة هذه المقالات هو إطلاق طاقات المثقفين الجذريين لمواجهة الأسئلة عبر سواد الراهن، وضبابية المستقبل، أسئلة الإرادة والحرية والعقل في عالم فوضوي يمكن أن تهذب الكائنات الثقافية جنونه، وتكبح جموحه قبل أن يطبق المستبدون، والفاسدون، ودعاة الهيمنة والعولمة على أ"رافه كلها، قهراً واستعماراً، وتنكراً للفن والثقافة.. وهم بذلك يعيدون الدنيا إلى صورة المراحل المظلمة الهمجية التي ناضل البشر للخروج منها آلاف السنين.
يحاول الكاتب صياغة طروحاته تلك من خلال أسلوب مزج بين الصنعة الأدبية وبين السمة النقدية، مدخلاً في بعض من تلك المقالات بعضاً من أعمال المثقف العربي (قديماً وحديثاً، شاعراً أو ناثراً أو كاتباً) مقارناً في بعض الأحوال ذاك المثقف العربي مع صنوه الغربي، مبرزاً ومن خلال استرسالات فكرية الواقع العربي ودور المثقف العربي القاصر وذلك في محاولة لبين بأن الثقافة هي ذات وجه إنساني، وعلى أصحابها أن يكونوا كذلك، وهذا الوجه الإنساني النبيل هو الذي نسج بين الشعوب وبين لوركا، وناظم حكمت دنيرودا، وماركيز، خيوطاً من التأثر والدهشة والإعجاب والاطمئنان إلى أمل سيحكم مستقبل الحياة!!
