"أهيلا التراب على روحي، ألقيا جثة الغريب للغراب الخراب، قبو الريح تؤنسه الذئاب، ليس للرغبة ناقوس، ليس للوحشة غرباء، ليس للباب داخلون أو أعتاب، ليس لليل سقف أو مزاريب، ليس لي سبب واحد للبقاء. هنا ينتشر الرمل، يحط الذباب على أسطر الكتابة، الحرارة سرقت ندى العمر، تهاوت أشجار السماء، تدلى حبل غسيل بلا ملابس، حبل غسيل أو حبل مشنقة، لا فرق بين إعدام القمصان وإعدام الشعراء. ينسل منهم ملكان نحو أوغاريت تطير ألواح الكتابة الكنعانية، تسد منافذ العودة للمنفى، يغلق باب توما، ويشرق سيد الشعر بالصعاليك. ليس للمدينة سُرّة، ليس للشعر نقاد يأخذون يد القصيدة للمهرجان، ليس للعتمة فانوس، ليس للصحراء وجه أو ذكريات".
تتشكل الأشياء في عباراته شخوصاً، وتتفاعل الحياة بكل كائناتها في قصائد الشاعر، مشكلة مشاهد احتفالية مرة رثائية أخرى ودائماً وأبداً مشاهد تعبر عن لوعة الشاعر وعن حزنه على وطنه الذي ضاع.
"رأيت أفاعي تسعى من جهة الصحراء، انحنيتن قلبت التربة، سجدت للغراب، عزفت قليلاً، صارت الجبار تهتز، المساء تذرف موسيقى جنائزية، الأشجار عارية تنوح، كان العزف على القيثارة، آخر ما يفعله المنبوذون من أعلى، المنبوذون من أسفل، المنبوذون من جهة البحر.
