أتساءل أحياناً: لماذا ينسحب شاعر جيد من الكتابة بينما يستمر آخر ردىء، ولماذا تنطمس موهبة كبيرة وتتوارى كأنها تخجل أمام الشعر بينما تبرز موهبة ضحلة أو شبه موهبة، ولا يجد صاحبها حرجاً في أن يدافع الشعراء، بالمناكب وينافسهم على مواقعهم ومراتبهم في الشعر؟؟! وصاحب "أعوام الرمادة" شاعر آثر أن يقف بعيداً في الظل، وأن يكتب دون أوهام ودون ادعاءات، ولذا كان مفاجئاً ومثيراً للتساؤل: ترى لو تسنى لهذه المجموعة أن تنشر في حينها، فما هو الأثر الذي كانت ستتركه في ساحة الشعر، وكيف يملك شاعر أن يحبس ضوءه السري طيلة هذا الوقت، وأن يخبئ نفسه عن الشعر؟ لقد كتبت قصائد هذه المجموعة في السجن، ومع أن الشاعر قد غادر السجن الذي كتب فيه، إلا أن قصائده استمرت سجينة بعده كل هذا الزمن. ولذا فإن أبرز ما يميزها انشغالها العميق بالحرية وتوقها للإنعتاق. إنها نصوص نوستالجية تفتح نفسها على الماضي وعلى الطفولة مثلما تفتح نفسها على الحلم. والمفاجئ حقاً، هنا ارتقاء كثير من قصائد المجموعة إلى مستوى فتي لم ترق إليه قصائد بعض الشعراء المكرسة أسماؤهم من جيل الستينات والسبعينات، وقدرة الشاعر المدهشة أحياناً على إنتاج نص حي يحاور النص التراثي ويجاوره دون أن يتورط فيه، ويبني حساسيته الجديدة ويطورها مواكباً زمنه دون أن ينسلخ عن الجماليات الموروثة. أن تتفاجأ، بصفتك قارئاً، يعني أن تقف على عتبة الدهشة، وأن توشك على اقتناص لذة المقروء. لكنه هنا يعني أن تكون كمن وجد كنزاً مفقوداً. إنها لذة أن تقرأ كأنك تجد وأن تتفاجأ كأنك تستكشف. "أعوام الرمادة" شعر حقيقي لمي يتقادم بمرور الأعوام.
