في هذا الكتاب صورة قلميّة للأمير عبد الإله، الوصي على عرض العراق لمدة ناهزت عقدين من الزمن، حتى حدوث انقلاب الرابع عشر من تموز سنة 1958 في بغداد، كتب هذه الصورة القلميّة السكرتير الخاص في الديوان الملكي العراقي "عطا عبد الوهاب"، المعار من السلك الدبلوماسي إلى ذلك العمل في السنتين الأخيرتين من العهد الملكي في العراق. وفي هذه الصورة القلمية جوانب إنسانية متعددة لشخصية الأمير عبد الإله لعلها غير معروفة لدى الكثيرين.
ويجيء نشر هذا الكتاب في أعقاب نشر "المؤسسة العربية للدراسات والنشر" كتاباً أكاديمياً عن الأمير عبد الإله من تأليف الدكتور عبد الهادي الخماسي، وهو أطروحة دكتوراه حاز عليها الكاتب درجة الامتياز من جامعة بغداد، وهكذا تكون الصورة القلمية في هذا الكتاب الجديد بمحتواها الإنساني المكتوب نتيجة اتصال مباشر مكملة للبحث الأكاديمي السابق.
ولعل كتابة هذه الصورة القلمية، في سياق سيرة ذاتية للكاتب، تضفي عليها بعداً حميماً يتصف بالصدق مع الذات، وينصف الأمير، الذي يوجد "في سيرة حياته الكثير الكثير من عناصر المأساة" كما يقول الأستاذ الموسى في مقدمته للكتاب.
