بعد ترويج السينما – ومن ورائها السياسة – لمصطلح "الحرب على الارهاب" بعد أحداث 11 سبتمبر 2001، أصبحت علاقة السينما بالارهاب موضع شك ومساءلة ملحة، خصوصاً وأن الصناعة السينمائية تبدو مطالبة دائماً بالإجابة عن سؤال كيفية "خدمتها الواقع"، ما يضعها أمام مأزقها الحقيقي: الكم في مواجهة النوعية، والجماهيرية في مواجهة الفن! فالسينما، بطبيعتها المكلفة وبجانبها الترفيهي، تخضع لعوامل كثيرة تحكم تناولها لموضوع الارهاب، أما الحروب فتصل الى نهاية في واقع الأمر، من دون أن تشكل نهاياتها نهاية للمقاربات السينمائية بالطبع. كما أن نتائج الحروب حاسمة بشكل أو بآخر، أما "الارهاب" أو "الحرب على الارهاب" فعملية مستمرة، متبدلة الأطراف، ملتبسة الغايات، مشكوكة الأهداف، وغير محسومة النتائج مهما حاول أحد أطرافها الإدعاء بغير ذلك. نتخيل إذاً أن يسأل السينمائي الذي يشرع في صناعة فيلم عن الارهاب نفسه سؤالين أساسيين: أين يقع فيلمي من النقاش السياسي والثقافي والفكري المستمر؟ وكيف يمكن للسينما الحفاظ على رؤية طازجة ونقدية إزاء واقع متبدل؟ في جانب آخر، بدا أن موضوع الإرهاب شكل مادة دسمة في المعالجة السينمائية متعددة الأهداف، فكرة وموضوعاً ووظيفة وغاية، تحت رافعة مقارعة التطرف، حتى باتت هذه الصناعة بمجملها مجندة لخدمة موضوع لم تستوف شروط فهم أبعاده وهوامشه وخلفياته بكل تفاصيلها، فأخذت تدريجياً تبتعد عن وظيفتها الأساسية في الابداع الانساني والتجديد والتنوير الثقافي لتقترب أكثر الى محاكاة النموذج السياسي، حتى كادت تكون أداة من أدوات الدعاية السياسية أو مدخلاً لتكريس مشروعية منقوصة.
تأسيساً على ذلك، تجدر الاشارة الى ان الكتاب، ليس مقاربة ثقافية محض نقدية، لا تهدف إلا الى نقد الإبداع السينمائي العربي فحسب، بل أردناه منطلقاً لفهم أدق وأشمل وأوسع للمهتمين والنخب والمتابعين وصنّاع القرار، كما العاملين في صناعة الفن السابع، لتحفيزهم على مقاربة موضوع الاهاب الحساسة وذات الأبعاد المختلفة بموضوعية وتوازن وإبداع، بعيداً عن حدي الافراط والتفريط، وعن حسابات المصالح أو الرؤى المعدة سلفاً.
