يقوم محمد القيسي، في هذا الكتاب، باستدعاء الماضي وشحنه وإعادة تركيبه حركياً من خلال حفره الدقيق في الذاكرة والوجدان معاً. إن الماضي هنا ليس مجرد مساحة زمنية لحركة الأحداث والوقائع، بل هو ملجأ سري نصعد منه، عبر مستويات الزمن كلها، إلى أحلامنا وتشوفاتنا، دون أن نبتعد عن طفولتنا. هكذا تصبه مقاربة الماضي فعلاَ نوستالجيا أكثر قسوة وإشراقاً من مجرد التذكر البارد.
إن (الطفل)آ إذن، هو الذي يقرأ نفسه، كأنه يعيش اللحظة في لحظتها ويبعثر الزمن والرؤى والأمكنة والذكريات ليستعيد حرارة الأشياء ومذاقاتها الطازجة، وليضيء شخصيته، في جانبها المعتم المرتبط بالأب الذي غاب مبكراً وبالأم التي احتلت فراغه بشكل ساطع. ولذا فإن الدور الذي يؤديه في النص بامتياز هو دور (الابن) الأبدي التراجيدي.
إن الخلفية المكانية والزمانية التي يتحرك عليها (الابن) هي مجرد امتدادات له، فالأب والأم والوطن ثالوث واحد، ولذا فإن المأساة شخصية للابن الذي فقد الأب والوطن، والتصق بهما كلياً عبر حضور الأم.
هذا الكتاب يعيد الاعتبار لفن (الندب) متكئاً على الشعر والفلكلور والأسطورة ونصوص الأحلام والتصعيد الوجداني، ويقود القارئ بخفة مدهشة إلى كهوفه البعيدة ويضعه، وجهاً لوجه، أمام طفله السري.
