الشعر لغة الحياة المعبرة عنها والمجسدة لما ينتاب الشاعر من خوف وقلق وحب وجوع. وبالشعر وحده يصل الإنسان ما انقطع من ماضية بيومه ويفتح نوافذ على الآتي فيستشرقه ويقف منه موقف المترقب المتحفز للقائه في كلمات للريح والأرض. تتدفق المشاعر وتتحول بلمسة ذكية إلى صور حسية سرعان ما تتجسد حية أمام القارئ، فالشاعر ردم الهوة بين الأمس البعيد والحاضر القريب أنه زمن الخوف الذي لا يخضع لمنطقة الأبطال. "في زمان الخوف، هل علاك فوق الخوف، عارف في زمان الدمع، هل صفاك مثل الدمع، ذارف في زمان السقطة الكبرى، هل استولدت واقف، من ترى أفتاك أن الموت كالأنوار كاشف، من ترى أنباك أن العمر أندى وهو راعف". ولأن الشاعر يمتلك أكثر من غيره القدرة على الإحساس بالزمن وانقضائه، فإنه لا يملك إلا أن يكتم في قلبه حزنه ويلوذ بالصحف من زمان وأنا أكتم في قلبي تميمة، للهزيمة، آه يا عصر الفتوحات القديمة، في الغباء، كل أبنائك صاروا أنبياء، ألتقي في كل يوم عبقرياً، خائفاً من جزع يبني تراثاً نظرياً، وحده أوكله التاريخ أن يبني الحضارة.
