المجموعات القصصية الخمس قصص تحمل ملامح قصص صاحبها الخارج من السجن باتجاه المنفى... خرج معطوب القلب، يزهر في جنباته ذلك النبات الوحشي... الحزن، وهو بقدر ما يبدو عاملاً سلبياً يفتت الروح والجسد، فإنه حين استقر في في قلبه لم يسوّد نظرة جميل للحياة... بل أصبح مستساغاً لذيذاً، وبعض الأحيان ضرورياً بالنسبة له لأنه أوجد توازناً من نوع معيّن بين النظرة والمعاناة؛ وهذا ما بثه جميل حتمل في ثنايا نصوصه التي كتبها. وجميل حتمل الذي خرج من السجن حاملاً معه من آثار الوطن الحزن والحنين، حاول أن يتعلم الفرح، وأن يجدد نظرته للحياة، لكن المنافي لا تعلم الفرح الحقيقي، كما أن الوقت أصبح متأخراً لأن يتعلم شيئاً جديداً... وأضحى هذا المنفى مصدراً إضافياً لحزنه... وأخذ الحزن يتكاثف ويتعمّق... والحنين يعمّق أحزنه... وهو متعب... وقلبه يتقلص يذبل وجعاً... وأمنية في العودة إلى المدينة تطوف في كيانه... "تعبت يا الله وأريد العودة إلى مدينتي، أو إلى بيتي القديم. تعبت من المترو والأنفاق والوحدة، وبرد الشتاء الداهم، وحريق القلب الآخذ بالانطفاء... تعبت وأريد كل مساء أن أهمس لابني بمساء الخير... تعبت من الصقيع من سياط الوحشة... من برود الرغبات... تعبت فأعدني يا الله.. ولو جثة أعدني". وكان هنا طائراً أزرق انتظره جميل... حتى أيامه الأخيرة... انتظره ليسمع تغريده... لكن الطائر تأخر في الوصول وجميل غفا إغفاءته الأخيرة على هذا الأمل...
