في مجموعته القصصية "ليلة القبض على سرّ الأدهم" يقول أحمد سويد شهادته على مرحلة معينة عاشتها بلاده وهي مرحلة الإحتلال الإسرائيلي لجنوب لبنان، ويقول أيضاً حكاية المجتمع المقاوم، والصراع الخفي بين المقاومين والعملاء، وأثر ذلك على البيئة المحلية، في ظل تكيف واضح مع العدوان، وتالياً استمرار المقاومة، حيث يجعل الروائي من شخصية أبو طراف الأدهم شريكاً في المقاومة على بساطته، فهذا العلاج الأصيل الهانىء البال في بيته الأليف مع بقرته الشهباء، وفئرانه، وهره عنتر، ودجاجته، لا يعكر صفوه إلا ذلك الكابوس الذي اسمه الإحتلال.
وفي غمرة الأحداث يبدو أبو طراف سرّ المقاومة، فبيته ملاذهم في السماء، حيث يعرض على مسامع المقاومين تحركات العدو ، ويضع نفسه وخبرته في خدمتهم، فيخبرهم بالمسالك الوعرة والطرق الخفية التي عليهم سلوكها، ولكن بينه وبين نفسه، يظل حذراً من العبسي اعتماداً على سوء ظن المختار به وبخبرته الطويلة، يعرف الأدهم مواقع الأقدام في الليل، ويتوقع أن يأتي عليه الدور، فللمقاومة ضريبتها، لذلك سوف تتداعى إلى ذهنه كل صور التعذيب بأسلوب الإستباق، وتراوده كإنسان لحظة ضعف، لا تلبث أن تنهزم، أمام إصراره على درب المقاومين حتى ولو كان الثمن هو الشهادة، ولكن تنتهي القصة بالقبض عليه بوشاية من العبسي، العميل للعدو، "دفعه الجنود بأعقاب بنادقهم إلى الشاحنة التي كانت تنتظر. وفيما كانت الشاحنة تقلع بعنف، ويتكوّر هو في إحدى زواياها القذرة، خارت الشهباء، وصاح ديكهم الأبيض الذي تعود أن يسبق أترابه مبشراً بولادة فجر جديد، وزقزق عصفور "كان يندفع إلى الفضاء مبهوراً بجلال البزوغ ونعمة الحرية، وتنفس هو بعمق، وفيض نشوة داخلية سرية المنابع تملأ صدره ...".
يضم الكتاب ثلاثة عشر قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "حفلة حضارية" ، "تداعيات جمجمة في زمن الغضب" ، "الكابوس" ، "تقرير سرّي جداً" ، "مأساة يوسف" ، "مقاطع من سفر الأشجان اليومية" (...) وقصص أخرى.
