من أعجب حالات السيد جوعان أنه كثيراً ما ينسى أنه جوعان. وهكذا فإنه بينما كان يتجول في مدينة الغذاء كعادته بحثاً عن الطعام، رأى رجلاً جالساً على مصطبة جميلة أمام باب بيت يشبه بيضة كبيرة جداً. وأمام المصطبة كانت يوجد ساقية فيها المياه، فوقف السيد جوعان ليتأمل ما كان يفعله ذلك الرجل. كان على يسار الرجل صحن مليء بالبيض وكان الرجل يأخذ البيضة فيكسرها ويرمي بصفارها في حياه الساقية، ثم يحتفظ القشرة الكلسية البيضاء في صحن كان بجانبه أيضاً.
وبعد أن تجمعت أمامه كمية من قشر البيض قام بسحق القشور ومن ثم أكلها بالمعلقة، إزاء هذا العمل وقف السيد جوعان مندهش من فعل الرجل فسأل نفسه لماذا يفعل الرجل هكذا بالبيض؟ وهل لقشور البيض فوائد؟ أم أن فوائد البيضة موجودة في الآح، والمح؟ بعد ذلك سأل نفسه كم بيضة تبيض الدجاجة في السنة؟ وكيف يمكن أن نعرف ما إذا كانت البيضة طازجة أم لا؟ أسئلة كثيرة دارت في رأس السيد جوعان وبالتأكيد سيجد أجوبتها في مزرعة الدجاج عند السيد ديك...
