وُلدَ في بيروت عام 1930 .
في العام 1950 ، نال شهادة 'بكالوريوس علوم' في الأدب والتاريخ من الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، وشهادة أستاذ في العلوم من الجامعة نفسها عام 1953 .
إلى جانب نشاطه التعليمي في الجامعة، وفي الإنترناشيونال كولدج التي احتلّ فيها موقع مدير الدروس العربية، صدرت للكاتب، حامل وسام الأرز الوطني اللبناني، مؤلّفات متنوّعة منها: 'الرائد'، وهو معجم لغوي أدبي نال عنه جائزة أصدقاء الكتاب في لبنان عام 1965 ، و 'المحيط في أدب البكالوريا' في جزئَين، و 'لبنان والنهضة العربية الحديثة'، و 'وليّ الدين يكن'، و 'جدّتي'، وغيرها.

أنين الغضب - هل هي رواية؟ هل هي خواطر؟ مذكّرات؟ لا يهمّ، "سمّها ما شئت"، يقول المؤلف مخاطباً قارئه، قبل أن يستدرك: "هو كتاب عن الناس في أحداث لبنان".
ولناس جبران مسعود حكايات عادية، مألوفة في يوميّات النار والدم، لكنّها خارقة ببطولاتها الصامتة، حكاياتٌ عن ناس يناضلون للعيش بكرامة على هامش الحروب التي تنهش الوطن، ويؤمنون بالوحدة بالرغم من تشرذمه بين أيادي الطوائفِ والأحزاب، منهم أستاذ لا يزال يتقن الفرح عند رؤية شعارٍ، ولو أنّه من شعارات الحرب، مكتوبٍ على أحد جدران المدينة بلغةٍ عربية صحيحة.
أستاذّ يرفض الهجرة والإلتحاق بأبنائه في الخارج بالرغم من لوعة إبتعاده عنهم، مفضّلاً الموت بين كتبه، ومنهم أيضاً الصّبيّة اليتيمة المثابرة مريم، والجنوبيّ المجتهد عليّ، اللذان تجمعهما قصّة حبّ تجاوزت إختلاف الطوائف ووجدت ملاذها في عالمٍ جديد بغدٍ خالص من شوائب المتاريس والمحرّمات.
بين دفّتي الكتاب، تتلاقى مصائرُ كثيرة، وتُسرّد حكايات كثيرة عن ناسٍ لفظتهم دوّمات العنف التي تفتك بالوطن، ناس جبران مسعود الذين يعانون بخَفر، فيلفّهم "أنين الغضب".
