يتألف هذا الكتاب (296 صفحة بالقطع الوسط، موثقًا ومفهرسًا) من ثمانية فصول. في الفصل الأول، "رجل الشيربا المغمور"، يقول بلوندان إن عالمنا الذهني ينبني حول تعارض بين نوعين إنسانيَين، "وتتلخص المسألة كلها في معرفة سر إصرارنا على الجهر عاليًا بأننا ننتمي إلى إنسانية واحدة، وفي القول إن جميع البشر متساوون ويمكنهم التمتع بالحقوق الأساسية نفسها". يرى المؤلف أن خط الفصل بين الإنسانيتين واضح، ويكفي على سبيل المثال المقارنة بين قدَرَي اثنين من البشر ولدا على الحدود بين الشمال والجنوب؛ "فالمواطن الأميركي، بفعل مولده على أرض مباركة، يفخر بحمل جواز سفر أميركي، مع كل ما يحمله الأمر من امتيازات، في حين أن المواطن المكسيكي، المولود في الشارع المحاذي في القرية العالمية، سيجد نفسه محصورًا إلى الأبد ضمن حدود مكانةٍ من الدرجة الثانية". يضيف بلوندان أن بنية الكتب المدرسية في مقاطعة كيبيك الكندية تنطلق من الفصل بين النوعين الإنسانيين: الإنسانية التاريخية (نحن) والإنسانية الجغرافية (الآخرون). ويضيف أن الخطابات المعاصرة عن البدائيين وإقصاءهم المنهجي عن الحياة الإنسانية الحقيقية لا يبقيان محصورين في الكتب المدرسية أو في القصص الخيالية، فهي تشكل نسيج الفلسفة الغربية ذاته، كما تُدرّس على مختلف المستويات ويجري تعميمها ونشرها عبر المطبوعات الكثيرة.
