يعود هذا الكتاب إلى شْري/ رَمَنا مَهاريشي (كلمة "شْري" تعني صاحب القداسة) وهو أحد أهم حكماء وزهاد الهند في العصر الحديث (١٨٧٩-١٩٥٠). دَهِمه ذات يوم وهو في سن السابعة عشر هاجس الموت وذلك بينما كان يجلس وحيداً بمفرده في منزل عمه فانتابه أيّما خوف وجزع، شعر على حين غِرّة بدنو أجله، ولكنه سرعان ما سلّم نفسه إلى تلك الفكرة المروّعة وبدلاً من أن يدير إليها ظهره مضى معها في دروبها، فأخذ يهدىء من روع نفسه بالتحاور معها عن حقيقة الموت والروح والأنا، حوار قصير جداً بمقياس الزمن ولكنه بواسطته سيغدو وهو لا يزال بعد فتى من أهم الأولياء الروحيين في تاريخ الهند بل والعالم، بل ومن رواد طريقة الإستفهام الذاتي أو الاستفهام عن الذات. كتاب (رسالة مهاريشي) عبارة عن كتابين في واحد، كان قد نشر لأول مرة باللغة الإنجليزية في ديسمبر ١٩٣٩م. يجمع الكتاب بين دفتيه أسئلة واستفسارات روحية ووجودية طرحها مريدو الحقيقة (على اختلاف مذاهبهم ومشاربهم) على شْري (رمَنا مهاريشي) والذي بدوره أجاب عليها بمنتهى العفوية والإيجاز. مع رحلته في صفحات هذا الكتاب، ستترسّخ لدى القارىء القناعة القائلة بأن الحقيقة المطلقة لا أرق ولا أجمل ولا أسهل من وقْعها عندما ينطق بها فعلاً العارفون بها. رسالة مهاريشي هو النص الإنكليزي الوحيد الذي تم تدقيقه شخصياً من قبل شْري/ رَمَنا مهاريشي - المخطوطة الأصلية والتي تتضمن تصحيحات وضعها شْري/ رَمَنا مهاريشي بنفسه لا تزال محفوظة في أرشيف الأشرم.
