كتبت هذه القراءات في فترات متباعدة، نشر بعضها في حياة الشاعرات والشعراء المقروئين، وبعضها الآخر كتب على سبيل الرثاء. تجمعها استطراداً صفة الغياب عن المشهد الشعري العربي عياناً، إذا صح القول، واستمرار الحضور فيه أثراً وتأثيراً. فصول هذا الكتاب تتناول، إذن، تجارب الشعراء الراحلين: بدر شاكر السياب، أمل دنقل، نزار قباني، فدوى طوقان، محمد القيسي، سركون بولص، ممدوح عدوان، محمد الماغوط، وبسام حجار، ولقد وددت أن تضم قراءات إضافية في أشعار راحلين كبار بدورهم، لولا أن عوائق كثيرة حالت دون إنصافهم، مع استثناء محمود درويش، الذي استبعدته مع هذه القراءات لاني كرست له كتاباً مستقلاً أرجو أن يرى النور قريباً (ومن قصيدته قافية من أجل المعلقات استمد عنوان هذا الكتاب). تكريم الراحلين غني عن القول، هو الغاية الأولى وراء تجميع هذه القراءات بين دفتي كتاب، ليس لأن الرحيل يستدعي هذ فحسب -كما يقتضي العرف للأسف- بل لأن الغاية التالية هي التأكيد على مكانة هذه الشعريات، واستمرار اشتغالها على نحو حيوي يناهض الموت، فضلاً عن رسوخها في الذائقة العريضة، وفي أساليب العصر وتيارات الكتابة، نقيضاً للفناء: ضد الإمحاء، وانحناء أمام زوال لا يزول.
