Book Description
إن "الكتاب المقدس" هو مجموعة الكتب التي تقول الكنيسة بأنها تكونت عن طريق الوحي الإلهي. وهذا الكتاب يتضمن ثلاثة وسبعين سفراً تتفاوت في حجمها، وتشكل في الواقع مكتبة تختلف المؤلَّفات فيها بعضها عن بعض، ولكل كتاب من هذه المكتبة مؤلِّفه، ومنشأه، وغايته، وتاريخه. وقد جرت العادة في الأصل على الإشارة إلى هذه الكتب بالكلمة اليونانية Ta biblia، أي "الكتب"، ثم استعارت اللغة اللاتينية هذه الكلمة لتطلق على مجموعة هذه الكتب اسم Biblia، وهي تعني أولاً أنَّ هذه المؤلَّفات تشكل "المكتبة المقدسة"، وتعني ثانياً أنَّ المقصود هو كلام الله المدوَّن خطياً، إلى جانب الأحداث والتدبير الإلهي في تاريخ الخلاص. هذه "المكتبة المقدسة" مقسومة إلى مجموعتين كبيرتين: العهد القديم والعهد الجديد، وهذا التقسيم مردّه إلى منشأ هذه الكتب وغاية كل واحد منها. وقد تمَّ استخدام كلمة "عهد"، كترجمة للكلمة اليونانية "دياتيقي" Diathèkè، وكذلك للكلمة العبرية "بيريت" للتعبير عما أقامه الله من علاقة بينه وبين البشر.
