الشيخ محمد الشبوكي هو تلك الشخصية المجاهدة والأدبية والإصلاحية والثورية والسياسية الرائدة، إنه العصارة المركزة للحركة الوطـنية الجـزائرية بشقيها الإصلاحي ممثلا في جمعية العلماء المسلمين الجزائريين، والسياسي ممثـلا في حزب الشعب الجزائري. وقد سخر شعره لخدمة القضية الجزائرية قبل الاستقلال، وخدمة الدولة ومشاريعها التنموية بعد استرجاع السيادة. ورغم كونه كذلك، فقد عرف عنه تواضعه، ورفضه لحب الشهرة والظهور، أو السعي إلى المناصب على حساب المبادئ، وهذا من صفات العظماء حقا وفعلا.
